My interest in financial markets began with my dad flicking through BBC Ceefax. Each morning, he would check the football scores before turning to the share prices. I was already passionate about football, and when he explained what the figures meant and pointed out the clubs listed on the stock market, it sparked my curiosity. That was the moment my interest in the markets began.

At a young age, I sat in a meeting with my parents’ financial adviser that left a lasting impression. The advice wasn’t complicated, but it was explained clearly and helped my dad see what his future could look like. It confirmed what I’d been thinking for some time, financial advice was the career I wanted to pursue. I went on to study Finance and Investment Management at university, spent time at PwC and Citibank, and then made the move into financial advice I’d always planned.

I advise clients across the full range of financial planning, from investments and pensions to protection and estate planning. My hands-on experience with more specialist arrangements, including small self-administered schemes, means I can consider options that might not come up in a more conventional conversation. For business owners, that means looking at their personal finances alongside the needs of their company, then explaining the options clearly so they can make informed decisions.

Growing up around business owners taught me that financial decisions rarely stand alone. They’re tied to people’s families, work and plans for the future. That’s why I don’t go into a first meeting with a solution in mind. I take the time to listen, understand what matters to each client and shape my advice around their goals.
