“There’s a real link between your health and your wealth, and I’ve seen both sides.”

Before financial advice, I was a physiotherapist. It’s not the most obvious route into wealth management, but the two have more in common than you’d think.

During my degree, spending a lot of time in hospitals, I started to notice a real link between people’s health and their wealth, such as the fact that how long they live and the quality of that life often tracks with the financial situation they’re in. Over time, I found myself more and more drawn to the idea of helping people through their finances, where I could make a longer-lasting difference. As a physio, I might help someone with a knee, a back or their cardiovascular fitness over six weeks, and then never see them again. In wealth management, you build relationships that run for years and across generations.

COVID was the sharpest test of that. I was working privately at the time but chose to go back and volunteer for the NHS, joining the Leicester Royal Infirmary Covid response team. We were the ones holding an iPad while families said goodbye to relatives they couldn’t be in the room with. Nothing prepares you for that, but having lived through it, I’m not afraid of the difficult conversations this job sometimes brings. If anything, it taught me how much a calm, steady presence matters when someone is going through the worst of it.

What genuinely excites me is the good side; the conversations about what people have worked their whole lives for: the holiday they’ve always wanted to take, the car they’ve dreamed of, the retirement they’ve earned. My job is to build a clear, simple plan that gets a client from where they are to where they want to be, in a way they can understand and stick to. I also feel strongly about the unfairness of Inheritance Tax, and wish to help people mitigate it wherever I can.

Travel has also had a big influence on me. When I was 12, my dad came home from work and announced we were moving to Dubai. I spent six formative years growing up in the Middle East. I’ve been drawn to new places ever since, and try never to holiday somewhere twice. When I first qualified as a physio, I spent a few months volunteering in a hospital and orphanage in Thailand, a country I’ve loved and one of the few countries I have returned to many times.

Outside of work, life revolves around my wife and our two young children, who keep us busy  visiting farms and castles across the Midlands. I’m a keen cook, particularly American barbecue, Caribbean, and Thai food, and a lifelong follower of football, cricket, rugby, and American football.
