My first job was in 1983, with a financial services company in Shrewsbury. Even all those years ago, I could see the joy on people’s faces when something went right – completing on a first house, or feeling secure about the future. Money is one of the most emotive things in people’s lives, and being part of those moments has always meant a lot.
I started in back office in 1983 and qualified as an adviser in 1993. I worked my way through to Chartered status while raising two young children. It was tough, but it taught me about juggling priorities.
I’ve been with the same company for over 30 years and married for over 40. I suppose what that says is that I’m loyal and have joy in both work and home life.
Some of the latest feedback from my client surveys included, “she saw me through some very bad times and has been there ever since”, “feels like one of our family” and simply, “a trusted friend”. That kind of feedback means the world to me.
Outside of work, family comes first. My grandson Oliver is 11, together with Morse, our Spaniel, both keep me on my toes.
