Peter Collier
Peter Collier

Business Development Director

I started my career within accountancy in 1974, working as an Articled Clerk until I qualified in 1976 and moved to a small company that is now part of BDO.

Following two years as a lecturer at one of the leading private sector accountancy tutors I spent time at an accountancy company before moving to a professional services business as Managing Director for ten years. Following the sale of my stake in the business, I worked with Tony Hurley at Fairmount Group plc as well as Brown Shipley Private Bank before joining him when he established Hurley Partners in 2013. The company was subsequently acquired by Mattioli Woods in March 2020.

With over 30 years’ experience in brand, communications, development and strategy within the financial and professional services sector, I am a Business Development Director at Mattioli Woods. I am responsible for the strategy of developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with professional intermediaries, including accountants and solicitors; managing key sponsorships and other strategies. I also work with the Marketing team on a project-by-project basis.

I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. I am married and spend lots of my time acting as an unpaid taxi driver to my daughter. My wife and I are keen supporters of National Hunt racing and have owned our own horses in the past. In my free time I look after three acres of garden and small-holding. I enjoy watching most sports and I play golf.

Doug Ryan
Doug Ryan

Wealth Management Director

Prior to joining Mattioli Woods, I worked at a local building society as well as a nationwide insurance company. Since joining the group as a client relationship manager, I have moved through the ranks with my main focus being the delivery of holistic financial advice to my long-term clients, with a speciality in retirement and inheritance tax planning.

Over the years I have helped the group by leading a team of consultants for a number of years, while also focusing on the integration of acquired businesses. Currently, I am more involved with the group’s business development and marketing initiatives while continuing to look after my clients.

In my spare time I love spending time with my family but also occasionally escaping for a run, a session in the gym or a round of golf. Over the next couple of years, I hope to be able to take the whole family skiing.

I have been working as a Wealth Management Director at Mattioli Woods since the acquisition of Hurley Partners in 2020, specialising in advising clients on the current pension regime and broader investment and financial planning strategies.

My extensive experience in areas of complex pensions, SSASs, SIPPs, pension transfers and retirement planning are complimented by investment management, IHT planning as well as helping families to manage their financial assets and protect their financial legacy.

Outside of the working day I enjoy keeping fit at the gym and with regular running along the coast at Brighton, and spending time with family.

Richard Watson

Wealth Management Consultant

I joined Mattioli Woods in January 2019 after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a degree in economics and geography. I was initially employed as a client relationship manager, developing my knowledge and skills by administrating large and complex SIPP and SSAS pensions.

Having completed my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, I am currently working towards chartered status. I work with professionals and high-net-worth individuals to provide bespoke financial planning solutions. As well as offering investment opportunities to my clients, I also provide retirement and inheritance tax planning to deliver a fully holistic service.

When not at work I am an enthusiastic golfer and skier. More recently I have enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, albeit with varying success!
