“I didn’t choose mortgages – after 22 years, it’s clear they chose me.”
I didn’t plan to spend my career in mortgages. A friend mentioned there were vacancies, I went for the interview, got the job, and discovered I was genuinely good at it. More than that, I loved it. Sometimes the path you didn’t choose turns out to be exactly the right one.
That was over 22 years ago. Since then, I’ve built deep expertise across residential and buy-to-let mortgages and protection, working with clients throughout the country from my base on Teesside. Along the way, I briefly explored wealth planning – but mortgages pulled me straight back. I’ve not looked elsewhere since.
What I do isn’t just about finding the best rate, though I’ll always work hard to do that. It’s about being a steady, knowledgeable presence through one of the biggest financial decisions most people will ever make. Whether you’re a first-time buyer stepping nervously onto the property ladder, remortgaging after years in the same home, or a landlord growing a buy-to-let portfolio, your situation is unique. My job is to treat it that way.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built over the years. Clients I first worked with eight or ten years ago still come back – and many have become friends. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you turn up, deliver on your promises, and make yourself available when it matters. If I say I’m going to do something, I do it. That’s where trust starts, and it’s the standard I hold myself to every day.
I joined Kingswood nearly three years ago and have continued building those long-standing client relationships here. Now, as part of Mattioli Woods, I’m looking forward to doing exactly the same – with the added resource and reach that brings. Outside of work, I’m sociable by nature – anyone who’s met me won’t be surprised by that. I enjoy equestrian sports when the Northeast weather cooperates, which on the North Yorkshire coast is always a gamble I’m happy to take. I also love walking along the beach and through the countryside with my family and our dog.
