“Good advice starts with the right question – not the right product.”
Over 20 years in wealth management, and I still mean it when I say no two weeks are the same. That variety is part of what keeps me energised – but so is seeing the difference that good, long-term financial advice can make to people’s lives.
I joined Mattioli Woods in 2006, having completed a degree in business economics. Starting as a client relationship manager gave me a good grounding in financial services, which helped significantly when I moved into advice. Today, I’m a Senior Adviser and Team Director, leading a team of 12 advisers while staying hands-on with my own national client portfolio.
My clients are mostly business owners, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals who need joined-up thinking across pension planning, investment strategy, Inheritance Tax planning and wider wealth management.
What I find most rewarding is seeing the plans we put in place come to fruition. I’ve sat with young families who had big ambitions but weren’t quite sure how to get there, and watched – 15 years on – as those same families helped their children onto the property ladder, funded private education, or simply enjoyed the financial freedom they’d worked so hard for. That’s what good advice looks like.
There’s another side to this work too. When something goes wrong in a client’s life – a health scare, a sudden change in circumstances – I’m often one of the first calls they make. That trust isn’t something I take lightly. Whether or not there’s a commercial solution to hand, being the person someone turns to when they need to talk things through is one of the most important aspects of my job.
My approach is simple. Understanding what a client is looking to achieve and why it matters to them. Understand timescales and from there, it’s about finding the right structures to make it happen as efficiently as possible, whether that’s pension consolidation, investment planning or reducing an Inheritance Tax liability.
Outside work, I’m Coventry City season ticket holder, I run half marathons to keep myself sharp, and I spend time with my wife and two children in creating experiences and memories through travel.
If you’d like to talk through your financial position, I’d be happy to help.
