“Good financial planning is like good seamanship – read the conditions, chart the course, and keep your crew safe.”

With a career spanning 33 years as a financial adviser, I’ve earned my reputation on one principle: getting to know people properly, understanding their goals, their families, and what’s keeping them up at night allows me to provide advice they can genuinely rely on. In short, I care.

I began at General Accident at 21, developing a strong grounding in Inheritance Tax planning and face-to-face advice. I later spent over 15 years in the mortgage market, including as area manager for a large estate agency group before returning to independent advice at Kirk Ella Investments in 2008. I then moved to St. James’s Place, followed by Kingswood (now part of the Mattioli Woods Group), where I’ve been for the past four years.

My clients include small business owners, retirees, and people at various stages of building and protecting their wealth. I work with them across pensions, investments, IHT planning, and protection – always focusing on the individual, not just the numbers on the page. I explain complex issues in plain, straightforward language, without hyperbole and I make myself available throughout the year, not just at review time.

Face-to-face advice is at the heart of everything I do. Financial planning is an ongoing relationship, and I treat it as such.

I’m currently working towards Chartered Financial Planner status because staying sharp is part of how I serve my clients well and keeps me relevant regardless of age.

Outside of work, family comes first. I love spending time with my daughter and our dogs. Away from that, you’ll find me on the water. I’ve sailed since my early twenties, hold my skipper’s ticket, and have crossed the North Sea.

Good seamanship and good financial planning share the same principles: read the conditions carefully, chart a sensible course, and make sure the people you’re responsible for arrive safely.
