My career in financial services began in banking, initially as a stopgap while I figured out my path after graduating from university. Over time, I progressed from mortgage administration to underwriting, then to leading a mortgage team, and eventually into mortgage advice. It was during this journey that I realised working directly with clients was the most rewarding part of the role, which led me to move into financial advice and wealth management.
Beyond technical knowledge, one of my key strengths is building strong relationships. I take pride in explaining things clearly, without unnecessary jargon, so clients feel comfortable and confident. I want people to feel they can ask anything, knowing that no question is a silly one. This approach is deeply influenced by my upbringing – my dad was a financial adviser who ran his practice from our family home. I grew up watching him treat clients like friends rather than transactions, and I have carried that mindset into my own work.
By building strong relationships, I gain a deeper understanding of my clients’ goals and priorities, allowing me to offer truly tailored advice.
Ultimately, I want my clients to feel more informed, more confident in the decisions we make together, and far less anxious about their finances. Looking ahead, I hope that in 20 years’ time, I can say that my clients trusted me, that I genuinely invested in them, and that I was there when it mattered most.
