“Save in the good times, so it’s there when you need it most.”
From an early age, I understood the real value of money. Growing up, my family worked hard for what we had, and that shaped a belief I’ve carried ever since: save in the good times and it’s there when you need it most. That mindset didn’t just influence how I think about money – it’s the reason I became a financial planner.
Before moving into financial services, I spent several years in the pharmaceuticals industry. It was a career with its merits, but it kept me at arm’s length from the people I was ultimately there to serve. When I decided to change direction, I found what I’d been looking for – a role where I could make a genuine difference by listening carefully, understanding what clients want to achieve, and helping them get there. Eight years on, I’m still as motivated as ever and not a day goes by without something new coming across my desk.
I’m a chartered wealth planner and a chartered associate of The London Institute of Banking & Finance, but qualifications only go so far. What I’ve found really builds trust is taking a genuine interest in people – their family, their ambitions, and what a good life actually looks like for them – before we discuss strategy or solutions. I’m a relationship adviser first. When clients believe in the process and feel their objectives are being met, whether markets are rising or falling, they can get on with living their lives rather than worrying about their finances.
I work across investments, retirement planning, Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning, and family protection. One of the most powerful tools I use is cash flow modelling – showing clients visually what their future could look like and whether their lifestyle goals are sustainable. It’s often the moment things click. I recently worked with a client who felt stuck in a job she no longer enjoyed and couldn’t see a way out. When we mapped out her position together, it became clear she could retire far sooner than she’d imagined. She’s since retired and, by all accounts, she’s delighted. Giving people that kind of clarity – and that kind of choice – is what this work is all about.
Everything comes back to that early lesson. Plan carefully, save consistently, and when life presents an opportunity – or a challenge – you’ll be ready for it. My job is to make sure that’s true for every client I work with, at every stage of their journey.
Outside of work, I’m a family man who loves the outdoors – walks, exploring new places, and spending time with the people who matter most. Simple pleasures, but they keep me grounded.
