“The right plan starts with understanding what matters most to you”
In my experience, many people don’t always arrive at financial planning knowing exactly where they’re headed. What matters is having someone alongside you who listens, understands, and helps you understand what you need as well as how to get there.
I initially studied law, a degree that still serves me well, particularly when working with trusts But it was working alongside financial advisers early in my career that set the direction. I was drawn to the one-on-one, long-term side of the work, and I’ve been doing that since 2010. I qualified as a chartered wealth planner early on because, if this was what I wanted to do,
I wanted to do it to the best of my ability.
Today I work with clients across wealth management, retirement planning, investment, Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning, and trust work. Many of my clients have been with me for well over a decade – and that matters. Relationships built over years mean I understand not just the numbers, but the people behind them. I know their families, their priorities, what keeps them up at night, and what they’re working towards.
One thing I’ve learned is that investing is rarely just about money. For example, people feel very differently about savings they’ve built themselves compared to money they’ve inherited. Someone going through a stressful divorce needs a completely different kind of support to someone counting down to retirement.
I find the investment side of planning genuinely fascinating – the world is always shifting, and there’s always something new to understand, from emerging markets to the real-world implications of artificial intelligence (AI). Keeping on top of that means I can have better, more informed conversations with clients about where their money is working and why.
Outside of work, I enjoy holidays and travelling to new places, and time with family and friends. I fit in the gym a couple of times a week and, like most of us, I’m always balancing a full schedule with making time for what matters.
I didn’t set out knowing exactly where my career would lead. It opened up gradually, one step at a time – and I think that’s true for most people’s financial lives too. My job is to help you feel confident about where you are, clear about where you’re going, and reassured that someone who genuinely knows you is helping you get there.
