MATTIOLI WOODS HELPED RAISE OVER £200,000 FOR ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH UK

On Thursday 14 May, staff from Mattioli Woods joined around 180,000 people watching Jay Flynn’s Virtual Pub Quiz, in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK, with special guest Stephen Fry.

What a wonderful evening it was; collectively, £200,000 has been raised so far for this very worthwhile charity. As a firm, we matched the first £50,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, currently our national charity partner.

Anyone wishing to make a donation, no matter what the size, can do so here:

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. The charity is very close to a number of people’s hearts, not only for staff whose family members have been affected by dementia, but also our clients who all too often have to plan and deal with the condition.

COVID-19 has had a massive impact on how this great charity carries out some of its work, and it is predicting to see a drop in income by as much as 45%, which would mean far less money available to fund much needed pioneering dementia research. As research is the future, what better time to support them than now.

Simon Gibson, CIO at Mattioli Woods said: “Alzheimer’s has a devastating impact not only the person affected, but also their family and friends. It is heartbreaking when your own Dad doesn’t recognize you, and Alzheimer’s is on the increase.

“What is important is to look after those with this condition now, making them as safe and happy as we can, but also to fund the pioneering research needed to find a cure. That is why we as a business support Alzheimer’s Research UK and were so happy to support Jay and the virtual quiz night. I would personally like to thank everyone who took part and also all of those who have continued to donate, taking the total to £200,000 – not bad for a pub quiz, virtual or not!

“Stephen Fry was as brilliant as always and it was wonderful to hear Zoe Ball mention the quiz on her Radio 2 breakfast show, along with coverage on the ITV news last night.”

Tim Parry, Director at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“We are so grateful to Mattioli Woods for generously match-funding donations from The Virtual Pub Quiz. Thanks to the £50,000 donation, we have raised £200,000 through the event. This is an enormous amount of money, which will help to safeguard vital research and ensure our scientists can continue to search for life-changing treatments for the condition.

“Dementia research needs support now more than ever as we continue to work to change the lives of millions of those affected by dementia worldwide.

Thank you again to everyone who made this event so successful, it wouldn’t have been possible without you.
