GOLDEN girl Sammi Kinghorn swapped the track for the corporate floor as she helped a company celebrate its switch to a new base in the heart of Glasgow.
Wealth management and employee benefits specialists Mattioli Woods plc has uprooted from its former home in St Vincent Street to bigger premises across town in West Regent Street.
The company is a long-term sponsor of 21-year-old wheelchair racer Sammi, who this year announced her arrival on the global stage with record-breaking performances at the world para athletics championships.
Yesterday, she helped to officially declare open the new fourth-floor office suite when she joined Mattioli Woods’ chief executive officer Ian Mattioli MBE in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
She was joined by coach Ian Mirfin, who helped guide her to winning finishes in the 100m and 200m sprints at London’s Olympic Stadium in July.
Mr Mattioli – whose company first backed Sammi as she was setting out on her athletics career – told clients and staff he was delighted with the move to West Regent Street.
He said: “Glasgow has historically been a great centre of excellence in financial services and Mattioli Woods is committed to using our strong ethos in developing natural talent to attract new colleagues in the future.
“This new office allows us room for expansion to ensure we continue to deliver excellent and valued services to our individual and corporate clients”.
Sammi, proudly displaying two gold medals and a bronze won at the summer championships, gave a motivational speech in which she charted her career from the freak accident which left her paralysed at 14 through to her plans for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
She said: “Mattioli Woods has been with me from the very beginning and I am delighted to play a part in opening its new office in Glasgow, the very city where I am now based.”
