Mattioli Woods plc, the specialist wealth management and employee benefits business, has kicked off a campaign aimed at saving lives with the installation of a defibrillator at its Enderby offices.
The automated external defibrillator (AED), which was unveiled at its offices, has been poignantly located in order for other businesses on Grove Park to be able to access it in case of emergency.
Speaking at the launch of the defibrillator, Ian Mattioli, Chief Executive, said:
“We are proud to see our first defibrillator put in place, which will be of benefit not only to our staff but to other neighbouring businesses on Grove Park.
“We hope it never needs to be used, but it is something that may end up saving a life. The safety of our staff is paramount to our business and once we were aware how an AED increases the chance of survival for someone suffering a cardiac arrest, we knew how important it was to install one. We believe businesses have a crucial role to play in this area”.
First Aid training provider, Iain McKenzie, taught the Mattioli Woods team on how to use the AED and provided incident management training and life-saving skills.
Heart disease is one of the UK’s greatest killers, with British Heart Foundation (BHF) statistics estimating that more than 60,000 sudden cardiac arrests take place each year outside of a hospital environment. According to the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), using a defibrillator within the first few minutes of someone suffering a cardiac arrest can increase survival rates by as much as 75%.
