Sammi crossed the line in third place to earn bronze and a spot on the podium after the T54 400 metres event in London last night.

It came just four days after she won the T53 200 metres race in a new world record time of 28.61 seconds – her first global title.

Last night, Sammi got off to a blistering start but was pegged back as she eventually finished third in 55.71 seconds – less than 0.5 behind the eventual winner, China's Hongzhuan Zhou.

She said: “I went all out, I pushed in the zone, and I'm just so pleased to have won a bronze to go with the gold”.

Mattioli Woods has been a major backer of the 21-year-old from Berwickshire for more than four years.

Her mother Elaine – who watched Sammi’s latest medal success from the grandstands last night – has praised the company for its sponsorship and support.

Sammi was left paralysed from the waist down after a freak accident involving her father’s forklift truck in 2010.

She said last night: “When I think back to the dark days I had just after my accident when I didn't know what life was going to be like, this is so incredible”.

The wheelchair racer has the chance to add to her medal collection at the weekend when she competes in the 100 metres and 800 metres events.
