“I consistently work hard when no one’s watching. It’s boring because it’s not glitz and glamour, but that’s one of my superpowers.”
If clients could see one moment from my career that shows who I am, it wouldn’t be a meeting or a result. It would be the things they couldn’t see; the preparation that comes before – the study, the modelling, the quiet work of thinking ahead and spotting opportunities others miss.
I grew up in Plymouth, which is about as far from anywhere as you can get in the UK. I was a British kid chasing an American university basketball scholarship, and the odds weren’t in my favour. But through hard work and dedication I became one of the best players in the country for my age and earned that scholarship. What followed was a shock: three practices a day starting at 5am. Train, class, train, class, train, bed. I’d think “there’s no way I can do this again tomorrow.” But you do. You always do. And those four years – as relentless as they were – remain some of the best of my life.
In 2009 I graduated from university and turned pro. At 24, I captained a team of men from different cultures and backgrounds. Basketball taught me to be ambitious without being selfish. If the team doesn’t win, nobody progresses. That lesson has stayed with me. Long-term outcomes are built by ignoring short-term noise and consistently doing the right thing.
After three knee surgeries, I knew it was time to channel my focus back into academia and during the latter stages of my playing career, I graduated from Loughborough University with a master’s degree in business management before joining Mattioli Woods in 2018.
My role today is to absorb complex information such as investments strategies and tax structures and translate it into clarity. I’ve never believed that confusing people proves intelligence. Clarity builds trust. Confidence builds trust.
I come from a working-class background and a close, loving family. Today, as a husband and father of two, my ambition extends beyond my career. Discipline, patience, and long-term thinking aren’t theories I talk about; they’re principles I live by.
I stepped away from sport not because I had to, but because I wanted something that would last. Basketball gave me unforgettable highs, but this work offers something deeper: the chance to earn trust over time and be there when decisions truly matter. The privilege of guiding people and their families through their financial future is a responsibility I’m proud to carry.
In basketball terms, wealth management is about staying the course through volatility, enjoying the small wins, and keeping sight of the championship. That final moment – when discipline compounds into freedom – is the reward for all the unseen work that came before.
