CHIEF executive Ian Mattioli last night picked up a top industry accolade – then dedicated it to staff and loyal clients.
Mr Mattioli was named Wealth Management CEO of the Year 2018 at a prestigious ceremony hosted by TV presenter Lisa Snowdon.
The City of London Wealth Management Awards recognise the quality of service of the UK’s best wealth management companies and individuals.
They are considered unique as investors – the paying customers - vote to determine the winners in each category.
After receiving his honour at London’s Guildhall Mr Mattioli said it was a tribute to the “hard-working, professional” staff of Mattioli Woods plc and the support of long-term clients, many of whom have been with the company since its inception.
He said he also felt it was recognition of the firm’s “integrity in the way it has dealt with its clients over the years”.
Mr Mattioli, who co-founded the business with Bob Woods 28 years ago, spoke of his delight that wealth management companies “north of the Thames are able to pull off a national award” – given the City of London’s dominance as the UK’s financial capital.
And, in a reference to his upbringing on a council estate in Leicester and the company’s humble beginnings in a converted garage, he said: “I firmly believe there is no other country anywhere in the world where you would get the chance to progress as we have.
“We started out as a ‘disrupter’ because we felt there were so many bad practices around in the pensions industry at the time. We challenged the old regime by delivering better client outcomes.
“Today, we are an AIM-listed company employing almost 700 people, preparing to move into a new £15m building in Leicester and forging ahead with our plans for growth and expansion - but all the time remembering that it is still the client very much at the heart of everything we do”.
Mr Mattioli’s personal achievements already include being named London Stock Exchange AIM Entrepreneur of the Year. Both he and Mr Woods were recognised by the Queen when awarded MBEs in the 2017 Honours List.
