A young patient at Brighton’s Royal Sussex Country Hospital was the first to receive life-saving cardiac treatment from their latest piece of equipment – a £20,000 ECMO machine donated from funds raised by the former Hurley Partners Limited.

Hurley Partners Limited who were acquired in July 2020 and now trade as Mattioli Woods plc, had raised a staggering £330,000 since 2014 of which, £20,000 was made available to The Sussex Heart Charity.  This enabled them to fund an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine for Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital cardiac team.  Over 40 other UK-based charities have benefited in this way.

Director and Brighton resident Julie Sebastianelli said “my husband Steve has been very ill and through the brilliant care and attention of the whole team at Brighton from consultants and pharmacists to all the specialist nursing staff, he is here today as testament to their skill and dedication. On behalf of Steve and me and our two daughters I would like to thank everyone who has been with Steve every step of the way. Being able to assist The Sussex Heart Charity in the purchase of new equipment that will save lives gives us all at Hurley Partners so much pleasure. We are always amazed at the generosity of our valued clients and colleagues and are delighted that Mattioli Woods shares the same sense of social responsibility”.

An ECMO machine is a modified heart-lung machine that pumps and oxygenates the patient’s blood, therefore enabling the heart and lungs to rest and providing much needed lifesaving treatments.
