The evening was a celebration of the ambitious £11.3m project Leicester Cathedral Revealed, which will repair and restore the cathedral fabric then create a new building alongside – the Heritage Learning Centre, which will include an orientation and exhibition area and a learning space.
The Cathedral is an important gateway into the city, bringing in 130,000 cultural tourists annually and the project has £2million left to raise with plans to start development in summer 2020. It is estimated the Heritage Learning Centre will be complete in early 2021, and the restoration of the Cathedral by early 2022.
The Dean of Leicester, David Monteith paid tribute to the goodwill of Mattioli Woods in supporting the Cathedral’s charitable work in the city. The Dean said:
“The event would not have been possible without the support of Mattioli Woods. It is a sign of a healthy city when local businesses thrive, expand and then demonstrate good corporate citizenship by helping organisations and individuals”.
The Dean also gave his personal thanks to Ian Mattioli who has taken a keen interest in the project.
