MORE than 300 students from local schools will get a vital insight into the world of work when a careers speed networking event backed by Mattioli Woods makes a return.
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) today confirmed Friday, November 3 as the date of the latest get-together following its successful launch last year.
It will be held at Leicester Racecourse and feature companies representing a wide cross-section of local industry and commerce.
This year’s event is being sponsored by leading wealth management and employee benefits specialists Mattioli Woods.
Its chief operating officer Mark Smith said: “Right from its inception, Mattioli Woods has placed great importance on engaging with young people to help them explore career opportunities.
“To that end, we have developed our own highly successful graduate and apprentice recruitment programmes which have seen many local youngsters go on to discover great opportunities with us”.

Mr Smith – an enterprise adviser as part of the LLEP with a passion for developing employability skills within Leicester and Leicestershire schools and colleges – added: “We are delighted to be sponsoring this event.
“It very much mirrors all our own beliefs in businesses engaging with potential future employees within the local community”.
LLEP said last year’s speed networking event had been such a success that 97 per cent of the students who attended “were more aware of their career choices as a result”.
In the run-up to November 3, the organisation is now looking for local employers willing to take part and talk about their own careers, give industry insights and top tips on employability.
Dr Nik Kotecha, LLEP board member and chief executive officer of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, said: “I’m very excited about this event as it is a fantastic way for young people to explore the array of career opportunities available to them.
“We want to increase awareness of the LLEP’s key sectors to young people and raise their aspirations, enhancing employability skills. At the same time this event will raise the profile of Leicester and Leicestershire businesses and further develop relationships between schools, colleges and employers.
“Last year, employers from a whole host of different businesses and public sector organisations such as ASDA, Hastings Direct, National Grid, Aldi, British Gas, NHS and Mattioli Woods attended the event. This year we want to see the same commitments so that students can hear from as many employers as possible and expand on their labour market knowledge.”

Leicestershire’s largest careers speed networking event takes place at the racecourse 9am- 2.30pm and is part of the Leicester Business Festival (LBF).
