    Karen Robertson

    Wealth Planner

“My gran taxed my part-time income – and it taught me everything I know about money.”

When I was teenager, with a part-time job, my grandmother who raised me used to take money from me every week when I got my wages, Not cruelly – she was saving it for me, teaching me that your money is never really just yours. It’s for essentials, rainy days and for the nicer things in life that you aspire to. When I turned 16, I received a small lump sum from a policy she had taken out when I was six. She then got me to take out another one for 10 years in the future – she didn’t know what I was going to need it for, but she knew that I would need it for something.

Our relationship with money and risk is often influenced by experiences in childhood or early adulthood.

I enjoy working collaboratively with clients to understand those influences and provide financial advice that helps them achieve their short, medium and long-term financial goals.

I’ve been a financial adviser since 2006, including more than 10 years self-employed.  Joining Kingswood Group (now Mattioli Woods) in 2024 gave me the opportunity to focus on the part of the profession I value most: helping clients navigate an uncertain world with greater clarity, confidence and peace of mind about their future.

Whether that’s retirement and estate planning, or discussing the importance of having a will and power of attorney in place to make sure my clients wishes are understood and properly arranged. When difficult moments arise – and they always do eventually – careful planning can make a huge difference to the families left behind, reducing unnecessary stress and delays in administering their estate.

Outside of work, I love cooking, travelling with my partner and walking a very energetic beagle-Jack Russell mix on the many beautiful beaches throughout Scotland.
