“From my father’s values to my clients’ futures — a lifelong commitment to financial security.”
Finance runs in my blood. My father was Chief Manager at the Reserve Bank of India, and growing up he showed me that money isn’t a transaction – it’s a foundation. Security. Possibility. I absorbed that lesson early and never forgot it.
That understanding shaped a career spanning 25 years and two continents. I started as one of the youngest branch managers at one of India’s largest banks before moving to Edinburgh, where I developed my expertise in banking and completed my CII Diploma in Financial Planning. Being made redundant was the push I needed to move into regulated financial advice – something I’d always been drawn to – and I haven’t looked back since. I joined Mattioli Woods, bringing that full breadth of experience with me.
A client story that probably tells you most about how I work involved a couple in their early forties who wanted to buy a piece of forestry land in Scotland. The problem was funding it. When we sat down and went through their full financial picture, I found they both had old employer pension funds they assumed were locked away for another 15 years. By structuring a multi-member Self-Invested Personal Pension (SIPP), they purchased the land legitimately and tax-efficiently. What looked impossible became real – and that’s only possible when you look at everything together, never just one piece of the puzzle.
Pensions, tax, protection, investments, retirement income, Inheritance Tax planning and family goals are all connected. I don’t believe in neat boxes, and the best advice comes from stepping back and seeing the whole picture. I work mainly with business owners, senior leaders and professionals planning for or already in retirement, adapting my style to whoever is in front of me. Some clients want detailed technical explanations. Others want clarity on what to do next and why. My job is to meet them where they are.
I describe myself as a financial guide – someone who walks alongside clients, simplifying complex decisions step by step. When a client retired two years earlier than she’d planned because we mapped her cashflow carefully and showed her she could, the trust she placed in that process meant everything. Winning the Scottish Asian Business Award for Achievements in Accounting and Finance – based entirely on anonymous nominations – was quiet proof that something genuinely worthwhile had been built.
Outside of work, I’m an active member of Edinburgh’s Indian community and a devoted cricket fan. Time with family keeps me grounded – a reminder that behind every financial plan, there are real people and futures worth protecting. My father understood that. I’ve spent my career making sure my clients do too.
