“I build trust by being relatable, honest, and genuinely open with every client.”
I didn’t start my career in a boardroom. I started on a counter in a bank, greeting customers every day, listening to their worries, and directing them to the right people. That experience – working with everyone from ultra-high-net-worth clients to someone trying to clear a late mortgage payment – taught me something that still shapes how I work today: good financial advice starts with real human connection.
When an adviser at the bank told me I was a natural with people and encouraged me to qualify, I took it on myself – studying for my mortgage qualifications in my own time over 18 months. That drive led me through mortgage advising, then into pensions and investments, and eventually to Mattioli Woods. Building from the ground up means I understand the full picture of a client’s financial life, not just one corner of it.
Today, I work across pensions, investments, mortgages, equity release, and protection. Right now, a great deal of my focus is on Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning – an area that’s changing significantly and one where the right strategy can make a real difference for families. Whether it’s navigating new legislation or helping a client think through what they want to leave behind, I take the time to explain what’s happening and why it matters.
Being relatable is central to how I build trust. I talk openly with clients about the things people often avoid – protection, life cover, critical illness cover, even death. Not because it’s comfortable, but because being honest about the uncomfortable stuff is what genuine advice looks like. I hold the same policies I recommend, because I believe in what I do.
I’m currently working towards becoming a chartered financial planner, which reflects my commitment to staying at the forefront of the profession. Outside of work, I’m up at 6am most days for the gym – because starting the day right sets everything else up. I’m a foodie at heart, enjoy long dog walks, and spend as much time as I can with family. That balance keeps me grounded, and it’s not far from what I encourage clients to think about too: a plan that supports your life, not just your assets.
From a bank counter in Hull to comprehensive wealth management – the thread running through all of it is the same. I’m here to help, I’ll be straight with you, and I’ll always make sure what we do actually makes sense for your life.
